Petrella, 52, was indicted earlier this month on charges including first-degree assault and reckless assault of a child, both felonies.

According to the Cortland Police Department, Petrella was a family friend of the girl's mother. She allegedly shook the 4-month old baby while the child was in her care on May 21.

The infant was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where she was treated for brain bleeding.

Petrella is scheduled to appear in court next month.
