Marathon man pleads guilty to meth-making charges

CORTLAND, N.Y. — A Marathon man has entered a guilty plea to a drug possession charge four months after police reportedly found a large quantity of methamphetamine oil at his apartment.

Michael J. Gohl, 34, of Gee Brook Road, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Cortland County Court to one felony count of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to an official in the court clerk's office.

Gohl was arrested in April along with Patrick W. Mott, 20, of Cortland, after police allegedly found meth in their vehicle during a traffic stop on River Street.

After the traffic stop, police obtained a warrant to search Mott's apartment on South Avenue, where they reportedly found three digital drug scales and spoons with methamphetamine residue.

Officers also searched Gohl's residence in Marathon, where they found equipment used to make meth, drug packaging materials and about 113 ounces of methamphetamine oil, police said.

Gohl is scheduled to be sentenced Sep. 6.
