GROTON, N.Y. — A man was sentenced Monday morning for committing second-degree rape and first-degree sex abuse last summer in Groton.

David A. Reap accepted a 6-month jail term and 10 years of probation after pleading guilty to second-degree rape and first-degree sex abuse back in June. The plea also covered a charge for endangering the welfare of a child and attempted first-degree rape.

According to court documents, in the summer of 2015, Reap engaged in sexual intercourse with a person less than 15-years-old and, for the abuse charge, had sexual contact through forcible compulsion with a person less than 17-years-old.

The plea also requires him to register as a sex offender and undergo sex offender treatment. He'll also have to register as a sex offender.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Alyxandra Stanczak and his defense attorney was Jane Murphy.
