CORTLAND, N.Y. — The city of Cortland Police Department is asking for assistance in locating an American flag that was taken from the front porch of 60 West Court Street.

The flag was reported sometime in the early morning hours Sunday, police said. The flag is particularly special to the owner because it was brought back from Afghanistan by his niece, who is a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, police said.

While the owner is upset the flag has gone missing, police say he is willing to accept the flag back with no questions asked and will not press charges.

The flag can be returned to 60 West Court Street or to the police department with no risk of prosecution, police said
