CORTLAND, N.Y. — The Cortland Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying the person responsible for stealing a suitcase from a German couple that was visiting the area.

At around 10 a.m. Monday, a Samsonite suitcase fell out of a vehicle on Church Street. The driver of a white SUV grabbed the suitcase and drove off with it, police said.

The suitcase contained clothing, electronics and other valuables. It belongs to a couple from Germany who were visiting the Cortland area and other parts of New York State, according to police.

The driver is described as a white male in his late 60s, bald, wearing glasses and a red flannel shirt. The SUV is thought to be a newer model Chevrolet TrailBlazer with a gold New York State license plate.

Anyone who can identify the operator of the vehicle is asked to contact the Cortland Police Department.
