Cortland man killed in Tully crash

TULLY, N.Y. — A Cortland man was killed in a one-car crash on Interstate 81 in the town of Tully Thursday night, according to New York State Police.

The crash occurred at around 11 p.m. Thursday, when the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo traveling southbound on I-81 lost control of his vehicle, exited the highway at Exit 14 and continued down an embankment and struck a tree, police said.

The driver, Scott F. White, 49, of Cortland, was transported to Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse with internal injuries, including multiple fractures.

His passenger, Ricky G. Roberts, also of Cortland, was pronounced dead at the hospital after going into traumatic arrest and suffering severe internal bleeding.

Police did not say whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. No charges have been announced against the driver, but police say they are continuing their investigation.
