SUNY Cortland women's soccer team shuts out Canton, 11-0

CORTLAND, N.Y. — Ten different players scored goals as the Cortland women's soccer team defeated SUNY Canton, 11-0, in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Jets Field. The 11 goals were the most by the Red Dragons since an 11-0 win against Buffalo St. in 1992. Cortland improved to 3-1 with the win, while Kangaroos fell to 0-5.

Junior Ella Neville (Syracuse/Nottingham) led the Red Dragons with two goals. Freshman Gabrielle Mudaro (Farmingville/Sachem East) tallied one goal and three assists, and sophomore Vanessa Romero (Valhalla) contributed one goal and one assist.

Junior Kelly Minicozzi (Medford/Patchogue-Medford), sophomores Amanda Profera (Wantagh), Moe Festa (Centereach) and Whitney Mooney (Scarsdale) and freshmen Stephanie Sheridan (East Islip/St. John the Baptist), Marissa Pizzuto (Plainview/St. Dominic) and Lexi Pascuzzi (Coxsackie/Coxsackie-Athens) each netted one goal for Cortland.

Seniors Mersadiz Hayes (Syracuse/Bishop Ludden) and Stephanie Shapiro (Farmingville/Centereach) and sophomores Siobhan Swayne (Seaford/Plainedge) and Abbey Hume (Batavia) collected one assist apiece. Senior goalie Victoria Barclay (Holbrook/Sachem North) did not face a shot in 47:23 before giving way to freshman Linnzi Hosein-Sarro (Bellport), who also did not see a shot over the final 42:37.

For Canton, freshman goalie Allison Wakefield (Mastic/William Floyd) registered six saves in the opening 45 minutes. Sophomore goalie Kelsi Gilbert (Colton/Pierrepont Central) made seven saves in the second half. Sophomore Erica Bertolone (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) recorded a "team" save in the 70th minute.

Cortland opened up a 5-0 lead at the half as Pizzuto, Romero, Profera, Mudaro and Neville each scored. Festa, Minicozzi, Neville, Mooney, Pascuzzi and Sheridan each added second-half goals for the 11-0 final.
