Police: Woman displays gun as Cortland firefighters work on hydrant

CORTLAND, N.Y. — A Cortland woman was charged with two misdemeanors Wednesday after police say she threatened two city firefighters who were flushing a hydrant in front of her property.

At around 12 p.m. Wednesday, two firefighters from the Cortland Fire Department were working on a hydrant on Scammell Street when Daryl Pace, 33, came out onto the front lawn with a long gun and stared at the firefighters, according to Lt. Richard Troyer with the Cortland Police Department.

Once firefighters saw the gun, they packed up and left, Lt. Troyer said.

Pace was arraigned in Cortland City Court and charged with misdemeanors of menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. Police also confiscated the long gun.

She was released and ordered to return to city court at a later date.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Pace pointed her gun at the firefighters. We apologize for the error.
