CORTLAND, N.Y. — A 17-year-old Cortland man was arrested Tuesday after police found 96 grams of marijuana in his vehicle, according to the Cortland Police Department.

Owen T. Lang, 17, was arrested at 3:30 p.m. outside Cortland High School, located at 8 Valley View Drive, according to Lt. Richard Troyer with the Cortland Police Department.

Police were called to the high school after Lang was involved in a minor car accident in the school parking lot. Officers searched the vehicle and found 96 grams of marijuana, two scales and $900 in cash, police said.

Lang was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors.

Lt. Troyer said he could not confirm social media posts that claimed the marijuana was laced with fentanyl, a chemical used to treat severe pain that can be fatal in certain doses. He said the marijuana will be sent to a New York State Police lab for examination.

Lang was arraigned in Cortland City Court and released. He is scheduled to appear in city court Oct. 24.
