DRYDEN, N.Y. — A Dryden man was tased Friday after police say he attacked a deputy and resisted arrest while officers responded to a fight.
Police said they were called at 10:07 p.m. to a reports of several people fighting at a home on Mineah Road in the town of Dryden.
In the home, police found Antonio A. Bentley , 30, who they say "appeared to be highly intoxicated or under the influence of an unknown substance." When officers talked to Bentley, he allegedly became agitated, belligerent and refused to leave the home at the homeowner's request.
Police said Bentley also refused to remove his hands from his pockets and threatened to shoot the deputies, before aggressively shoving one of them. Deputies then took Bentley to the ground and tried to handcuff him, but a struggle ensued. He was able to grab an officer by the throat and bite a deputy's hand and arm. Police eventually tasered the man an took him into custody.
Bentley was charged with second-degree assault on a police officer, obstructing governmental administration and two counts of second-degree attempted assault on a police officer.
He was arraigned in the town of Ulysses Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of posting $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
