Two Cortland men charged with making meth

CORTLAND, N.Y. — A traffic stop on South Main Street Saturday morning led to the arrest of two Cortland men on felony drug charges.

At around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Cortland police pulled over a vehicle near the intersection of Main and Huntington streets as part of a vehicle and traffic stop, according to Lt. Richard Troyer with the Cortland Police Department.

While searching the vehicle, officers found materials used to make meth, police said.

James E. Duff, 38, and Troy A. Schermerhorn, 27, were each charged with third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, a class D felony, and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, both felonies.

They were arraigned in Cortland City Court and taken to Cortland County Jail. Duff was jailed on $25,000 cash bail while Schemerhorn was remanded on $50,000 bail.
