ITHACA, N.Y. — A former Tompkins Cortland Community College student accepted a plea deal Wednesday afternoon after he and a group of several other people attacked a student in a residence hall and stole the person's property.
Lemain A. Jackson, of Hopewell Junction in Dutchess County, pleaded guilty to felony second-degree attempted gang assault, a reduction after initially facing two felony charges for first-degree burglary and second-degree gang assault.
Judge John Rowley said in court that the victim suffered from a broken jaw after Jackon and three or four other people attacked the student on April 20 at TC3. No other arrests were made in the case, and Jackson did not identify who he was with when the assault happened.

At the time of the incident, TC3 Campus Police said that the people involved all knew each other in some capacity. It was not a random crime. Jackson has since been dismissed from being a student at the college.
Assistant District Attorney Dan Johnson said that per the plea deal, he was recommending that Jackson be sentenced to six months in jail, three years of probation and be issued a full stay-away order of protection.
Jackson, who is represented by attorney Jerome Mayersak, is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 20 and is meanwhile released on his own recognizance.
