Update: Authorities identify driver in fatal Virgil crash

VIRGIL, N.Y. — One person was killed in a rollover crash in the town of Virgil Monday night, according to the Cortland County Sheriff's Office.

The driver was traveling north on Kohne Road at around 6:44 p.m. Monday when the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a culvert, according to Sgt. Chad Burhans with the sheriff's office.

Emergency crews arrived to find the driver pinned underneath the vehicle. Crews requested a medical helicopter, though the call was later cancelled after the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the driver is being withheld until family members or relatives are notified, the sheriff's office said.

The Virgil and Cortlandville fire departments, Dryden Ambulance and TLC Ambulance provided assistance at the scene.

The sheriff's office says it will continue to investigate the crash.
