The latest briefing from the National Weather Service in Binghamton

CORTLAND, N.Y. — Dangerous snow squalls will continue to impact Cortland County Monday night, dropping visibility to near zero, according to The National Weather Service in Binghamton.

A special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service shortly before 8 p.m. Monday says the squalls will last until 9:45 p.m. Other affected counties include Madison, Seneca, Chenango, Cayuga, Onondaga and Tompkins counties.

The worst conditions will be on Interstate 81 from the New York/Pennsylvania border to Syracuse, according to the weather service.

A travel advisory remains in effect for Cortland County through 9 p.m.

A lake effect snow warning remains in effect for the region through 4 a.m. Tuesday. Lake effect snow will fall at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, though precipitation will gradually diminish through the evening hours.

Occasional light snow flurries are expected on Tuesday, with little additional snow accumulations.
