Travel advisory issued in Cortland County due to weather

CORTLAND, N.Y. — Cortland County has issued a travel advisory that will remain in effect until 9 p.m. due to hazardous weather conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow warning for Cortland County that will remain in effect until 7 p.m.

Anyone that does have to drive should take extra time to clean off their vehicle completely for better visibility.

"At the present time all county roads are snow covered, very slippery along with with blowing snow and poor visibility are causing hazardous conditions," the advisory reads. "All area highway crews are working diligently to clear the snow from the roads."

All school districts in the Cortland area are closed as the first winter storm of the season makes its mark on central New York.

All classes at SUNY Cortland and Tompkins Cortland Community College were also cancelled today.

Parts of Cortland County are expected to receive anywhere from 5 to 10 inches of snow today, bringing total snow accumulations anywhere between 12 to 18 inches since Saturday night.
