CORTLAND, N.Y. — A woman who worked at a gas station in Cortlandville is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from her employer.

Jessica A. Rice, 24, of Blodgett Mills, was arrested Tuesday and charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony.

The alleged theft at the Express Mart on Route 41 in Cortlandville was discovered by the store's district manager during an audit last month, authorities said.

The audit revealed that Rice had "stolen US currency over a short period of time from the store in excess of $3,000 dollars while she was working," the sheriff's office said in a news release.

Investigators with the sheriff's office interviewed Rice on Tuesday about the incident. She was subsequently arrested and charged with felony grand larceny.

Rice was arraigned in Cortlandville Town Court and released to Alternatives to Incarceration. She is scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 19.
