Cortland: Winter weather advisory in effect Tuesday; 1-3 inches of snow expected

CORTLAND, N.Y. — Cortland County is expected to receive between 1 to 3 inches of snow beginning Tuesday morning and lasting through Wednesday morning.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for the county through 7 a.m. Wednesday. A wind advisory will take effect beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday and lasting through 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Advisories are also in effect for Tompkins, Cayuga, Chemung and Onondaga counties.

Snow will change to freezing rain and sleet in the late afternoon hours, accompanied by breezy winds that could produce power outages, according to The National Weather Service.

Untreated roads, streets, sidewalks and parking lots could also become slippery. Forecasters recommend using caution when traveling during the advisory period.
