Ithaca man killed in Dryden crash

DRYDEN, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim of a fatal crash Friday as Brent D. Handy, 44, of Ithaca.

Handy was killed in a Friday night crash while driving in the town of Dryden after his vehicle slammed into a tree, police said.

Officials responded to the area near 1651 Ellis Hollow Road at 8:17 p.m. where they found the Ford SUV crashed headfirst into a tree. Handy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Ryan Slocum said police are still determining what caused the crash.

The Tompkins County Sheriff's Department, Dryden Ambulance, and Varna Fire & Rescue responded to the scene.

Correction: The first sentence of this report initially incorrectly stated the town where the crash happened. It occurred in Dryden.
