Cortland woman accused of sending sexual content to a minor

CORTLAND, N.Y. — A Cortland woman has been charged with disseminating sexual material to a person under the age of 18.

Shawna Sabin

The arrest stems from a Jan. 3 report that accuses 18-year-old Shawna Sabin of sending indecent material to a minor, according to the Cortland County Sheriff's Office.

Sabin was arrested two weeks later and charged with "disseminating indecent material to a minor," a first-degree, class D felony.

"The actions of the defendant were made in a manner likely to be injurious to the physical, mental or moral welfare of the victim," the sheriff's office said in a news release Tuesday.

Sabin also faces charges of obscenity and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors. Authorities did not disclose the age of the minor.

She was arraigned in Cortland City Court and put under the supervision of Cortland County's Alternatives to Incarceration program. She is scheduled to appear in city court Feb. 8.
