Marathon man charged with DWI after hit-and-run crash

MARATHON, N.Y. — A Cortland County man was arrested over the weekend following a hit-and-run crash in the town of Marathon.

At around 4 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a Cortland County 911 report of a hit-and-run accident in the parking lot of Gregg's Market on Cortland Street in the town of Marathon.

John K. Brookes, 56, was intoxicated when he backed into a parked vehicle and drove home without reporting the damage, police said.

Brookes was arrested at his home in Marathon. He was issued tickets for DWI, backing unsafely and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

He is scheduled to appear in Marathon Town Court next month.
