Turbine truck shipment to pass through Homer Saturday morning

HOMER, N.Y. — A 187-ton General Electric turbine shipment is expected to pass through the village of Homer Saturday morning, according to police.

New York State Police say their escort of the turbine engine is expected to leave Preble at around 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. It is expected to reach the village between 9 - 9:30 a.m.

Homer police, fire and public works crews will be assisting state police by diverting traffic at intersections along Route 281.

When the turbine reaches the intersection of Route 281 and Hooker Avenue, northbound traffic on Rt. 281 will be diverted to Main Street, either by Cayuga Street or Clinton Street, according to the Homer Police Department.

Emergency crews will be at various intersections to assist with rerouting traffic.

The police department said the time frame for the event is "contingent on everything moving smoothly" and that changes may occur.

"Motorists driving on the affected roads should be on the lookout and should seek out alternate routes when this behemoth is in their area," state police said.
