CORTLAND, N.Y. — A man from the village of Marathon who had a warrant for his arrest in Mississippi was arrested Friday in connection with a stolen vehicle, the Cortland County Sheriff's Office announced Monday.

On Friday, local authorities were contacted by the Grenada County Sheriff's Office of Mississippi and asked to assist in finding a stolen truck — along with a wanted subject — from their jurisdiction, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators with the sheriff's office were able to track down the truck and its alleged captor on Mill Street in the village of Marathon, according to Lt. Todd Caufield with the Cortland County Sheriff's Office.

Derrick A. Griffiths, 31, of Marathon, was taken into custody following a traffic stop on Route 41. He was arraigned in Cortlandville Town Court on a New York State felony charge as a fugitive from justice.

The truck was impounded and is being held where it will be turned over to the Grenada County Sheriff's Office, authorities said.
