Police locate missing teen from William George Agency

April L. Smith

The search is over for a 17-year-old girl from William George Agency for Children who was reported missing last week.

On Jan. 29, deputies from the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office responded to 380 Freeville Road in Dryden for a report that resident April L. Smith, 17, had gone missing. Staff members told deputies they believe Smith voluntarily ran away from the facility.

Smith was located Saturday by the Greene County Sheriff's Office and is in good health, according to Sgt. Ryan Slocum of the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office. Smith currently has unrelated criminal charges in Greene County and is in custody there, Slocum said.

Slocum said Smith refused to provide information on how she got to Greene County or who she was with.
