Lake effect snow advisory in effect for Cortland County; 3-6 inches of snow expected

CORTLAND, N.Y. — A lake effect snow advisory has been issued for Cortland County until 7 p.m. Thursday.

Lake-effect snow bands will develop between 4 and 7 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

Snowfall rates of up to an inch per hour could occur during heavier, persistent bands of snow, forecasters said. Snow is expected to decrease in intensity by late Thursday afternoon.

The advisory is also in effect for Cayuga, Chenango and Otsego counties.

Motorists should be advised that blowing and drifting snow will make for hazardous driving conditions.

Wind gusts of up to 35 mph are also possible, with temperatures hovering in the mid 20s.
