CORTLAND, N.Y. — Cortland County Sheriff Mark Helms has issued a travel ban closing all roads in Cortland County, except for emergency traffic.

The ban is in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday until 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The travel ban applies to all county, town, city and state roads in Cortland County. Only emergency and essential personnel will be permitted on the roadways, the sheriff's office said.

"At the present time all county roads are snow-covered, very slippery along with blowing snow and poor visibility, causing hazardous conditions," the sheriff's office said, adding that highway crews are working to clear snow from the roads.

Anyone who may have to drive is advised to take extra time to clear off their vehicle.

A winter storm warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday.
