Syracuse man identified as victim in fatal I-81 crash in Cortlandville

CORTLAND, N.Y. — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal car crash that occurred on Interstate 81 in Cortlandville early Sunday morning.

The accident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. in the northbound lane of I-81, just south of the exit off-ramp for Homer, Exit 12, according to the Cortland County Sheriff's Office.

A 2008 Kia Optima occupied by four individuals was traveling northbound on the highway when the driver lost control of the vehicle, striking the guard rails on both the right and left sides of the highway before coming to a stop in the road.

As the four occupants exited the vehicle, a 2015 Ford Mustang being driven by 29-year-old Andrew Roy of Willow Spring, North Carolina, struck the Kia, authorities said.
