Indictment: 17-year-old resident from William George Agency accused of stealing car

ITHACA, N.Y. -- A 17-year-old was indicted in Tompkins County Court on Thursday morning after police allege that he stole a car from the William George Agency in Freeville, later abandoning it.

Police say Dyllon C. Hare, a resident at William George, entered the auto shop at the agency on Jan. 14 and stole a car, then proceeded to drive it to Rochester with a friend.

Joshua D. Ryant, an auto-maintenance mechanic at William George said he arrived at his office in the shop around 7 a.m. the next morning and noticed a lock box was bent at the top and bottom. Ryant told police that the keys to a blue 2012 Chevy Cruze were missing, along with the car. Ryant said Hare was a student who took classes at the shop and was familiar with the facilities and whereabouts of cars and their keys.

New York State Police later found Hare and the car, which he had abandoned in a Rochester parking lot.

Hare was indicted on Thursday and charged with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny. He was originally arraigned in Dryden Town Court and is represented by attorney Todd Miller.
