Cortland firefighters extinguish blaze at Reynolds Avenue home

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that started inside a home on Reynolds Avenue Saturday evening.

The Cortland Fire Department and City of Cortland Police Department were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the entrance hallway of the home, according to the Cortland Professional Firefighters Association.

A police officer who was the first to arrive at the scene used a dry chemical extinguisher on the blaze, and responding firefighters used a water can to douse the remaining flames.

Firefighters then conducted a search for occupants in the building and found that two of the three apartments were occupied, officials said. No injuries were reported.

The Cortland Fire Department's Fire Investigation Team was called to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Investigators are not releasing an official statement at this time.
