Public invited to Cortland League of Women Voters' election forums

Editor's Note: The following content is a community announcement from the Cortland County League of Women Voters.

In the Sept. 12 primary election, local voters will decide which candidate represents them in the November general election. Voters can hear candidates’ views and ask questions at “Meet the Candidates” forums on Sat., Aug. 26, and Saturday, Sept. 9., sponsored by the nonpartisan League of Women Voters (LWV) of Cortland County.

Candidates will make timed opening and closing statements. The forums will cover a range of issues. Candidates will answer questions developed in advance by the LWV, as well as questions from the audience. Forums will be moderated by Alison King, President, Cortland LWV.

Saturday August 26, 10:00 am – noon, Homer Town Hall,  31 North Main St., Homer NY
Parking is available behind building.  Use rear entrance, and go downstairs.  Elevator is available.

Cortland County Legislature Forum

The following candidates have agreed to participate:  Douglas Bentley (Democratic), Mary Ann Discenza (Democratic), Beau A.C.  Harbin (Democratic), Michael E. Magee, Kelly L. Preston (Republican), John R. Troy (Democratic), and Kevin Whitney (Republican).  No response was received from the following candidates:  Amy L. Cobb (Democratic), Gordon R. Wheelock (Republican), and Richard J. Woodrome (Republican).

Park in public lot.  Use entrance on side of building by parking lot.

Cortland County Judge, 9:00 am – 10:00 am

The following candidates have agreed to participate:  David C. Alexander (Republican, Conservative, Independence, Reform) and Keith D. Dayton (Republican, Conservative, Independence, Reform).

City of Cortland Mayor, 10:30 am - noon

The following candidates have agreed to participate:  Angela Wilde (Democratic) and Brian T. Tobin (Democratic).

City of Cortland Common Council, 10:30 am - noon

No response was received from the following candidates:   Troy M. Beckwith (Democratic) and Linda A. Ferguson (Democratic)
