Cortland man charged with felony criminal contempt

Name: Joseph W. Edge, Jr.

Narrative: On Aug. 29, in the afternoon hours, the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of a domestic incident that had occurred earlier in the parking lot of K-Mart, located in the Town of Cortlandville. The victim reported that she has a full stay away order of protection against her husband, 47 -year-old Joseph Edge Jr. The investigation revealed that the defendant had violated the order of protection by coming into contact with the victim at K-Mart. There were no injuries as a result of this contact, it was verbal only, authorities said. The defendant was located by Cortland County Sheriff’s Officers at his residence later that same day and taken into custody without incident.

Animal complaint leads to drug charge

Charges: Unlawful growing of marijuana without a permit (misdemeanor); unlawful possession of marijuana (violation)
Date Arrested: August 23, 2017
Narrative: On August 14th, at approximately 8:08 p.m., officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to Grove Street in the Village of Marathon to assist the SPCA with an animal complaint.  Officers were unable to summon the resident to the front door, and when officers walked to the rear of the residence, they found a marijuana plant growing next to the back door, the sheriff's office said. Ms. Smith admitted to officers that she in fact had been growing the plant in her backyard, authorities said. The plant was confiscated by officers and she was processed and released on an appearance ticket.

Homer woman charged with DWI

Charges: Driving While Intoxicated - Blood Alcohol Content .18% or higher (misdemeanor); consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle (traffic infraction)
Date Arrested: August 24, 2017
Narrative: Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint of a suspicious motor vehicle on Foster Road in the Town of Homer. Upon arrival, officers located Vanessa R. Isaacs parked alongside the roadway near Route 90 and was found to be intoxicated, authorities said. Isaacs was released to a third party, on appearance tickets, and is scheduled to appear in Homer Town Court on Sep. 19.
