CORTLAND, N.Y. - A local business is collecting boxed goods that will be sent to help victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.

Stupid Choppers, located at 3901 West Road, will collect donations between 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday.

Business owner Jason McRae said he got the idea from longtime friend Jimmy Grant, an over-the-road trucker for Page Transportation. Grant's employer agreed to provide a trailer for the boxed goods, though Grant is paying for the fuel for the trip himself, McRae said.

"The community really came together. A lot of business donated large amounts of goods," McRae said.

McRae said that while he's done benefit events in the past, the relief drive for Texas has brought hundreds of people to his business each day.

"We're getting quite an outpouring of people," he said. "People are pulling in one after the other with their donations."

Some of the items needed include bug spray, first aid kits, household kitchen items, pet food and supplies, and canned and packaged food.

All items should be boxed and labeled. Volunteers are also currently needed to help load the truck.
