Update: Pickup truck driver issued ticket in Homer motorcycle crash

HOMER, N.Y. - Two people remain hospitalized following a crash involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle on Route 281 this past weekend.

The crash occurred at around 1:08 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Center Street and Route 281.

An investigation has determined that the driver of the pickup truck, identified as 78-year-old Robert Franz, of Homer, was making a left turn onto South-West Street from Center Street when he pulled into the path of the motorcycle, which was traveling north on South-West Street, according to the Homer Police Department.

Franz, who was treated at the scene for his injuries and is said to have cooperated with authorities in their investigation, has been issued a traffic ticket for failing to yield the right of way.

The driver of the motorcycle, 41-year-old Richard Jackson, of Cortland, and his passenger, 31-year-old Rachel Derry, also of Cortland, remain in Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where they are listed in "stable but serious condition."

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, the Homer Fire Department and TLC Ambulance also responded and assisted at the scene.
