PREBLE, N.Y. - A Cortland County teen has been charged in connection with a sexual assault incident that reportedly happened on the Tully Junior Senior High School Campus Tuesday night.

Gavin S. Maloney, 16, of Preble, has been charged with first-degree rape, a class B felony, following an investigation by New York State Police investigators with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in LaFayette, police said in a news release Thursday.

The incident occurred after school hours on the Tully Junior Senior High School Campus, police said, when Maloney allegedly engaged in an unwanted sexual act by "forcibly raping a victim less than 16 years of age."

Tully School District Superintendent Rob Hughes told Syracuse.com that the incident happened in a vehicle, adding that the district may take disciplinary action at the school level.
