Cortland County resident bought $104 million lottery ticket

CORTLAND, N.Y. - A Cortland County resident is the lucky winner of Friday's $104 million Mega Millions jackpot drawing.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Mirabito gas station on Route 281 in Preble, lottery officials announced last week.

On Monday, officials confirmed that the purchaser of that ticket resides in Cortland County, though that person has not yet been identified.

“We are thrilled that a New Yorker has taken the Mega Millions jackpot,” New York Lottery Director Gweneth Dean said in a press release. “This lucky individual just became one of Central New York’s richest individuals, and we can’t wait to introduce the winner to everyone.”

The Sept. 22 drawing also produced a $5 million Mega Multiplier winner in Westchester County, though that ticket has not yet been claimed.

The winner has the option of taking the $105 million annuitized price in 29 laddered payments or receiving the cash value of the prize in a one-time payment of $66 million.

Mega Millions winners have 60 days from the date they claim to decide how they want to receive their money.
