Cortland area police agencies hosting 'Coffee with a Cop' Wednesday

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Members of the public will have a chance at casual conversation with a local police officer Wednesday morning.

There are several 'Coffee with a Cop' events scheduled for today at various locations throughout Cortland County. The events are designed to improve police-community relations by connecting police officers with local residents in an informal setting.

Officer Jesse Abbott with the Cortland Police Department will be at BRU 64 on 64 Main St. from 9-11 a.m.

Sheriff Mark Helms and Capt. Robert Derksen with the Cortland County Sheriff's Office will be at Reilly's Cafe, located at 8 Main St. in Marathon, from 8-10 a.m.

Members of the University Police Department will be at the Student Life Center on the SUNY Cortland campus from 9-11 a.m.

Cortland is one of hundreds of cities across the country participating in the national Coffee with a Cop day, which falls on the first Wednesday in October.
