Cortland Women's Soccer drops 3-1 Decision at Geneseo

Alannah O'Shea assisted on Cortland's goal that tied the game early in the first half

GENESEO, N.Y. - Geneseo scored twice in the final five minutes to break a 1-1 tie and the nationally eighth-ranked Knights defeated visiting Cortland, 3-1, in a SUNYAC women's soccer game.

Cortland falls to 7-3-3 overall and 4-3 with the loss. Geneseo remains unbeaten on the season at 12-0-1 (6-0 SUNYAC). Cortland is currently fourth in the SUNYAC standings with 12 points, one behind Potsdam.

Geneseo grabbed a 1-0 lead just 51 seconds into the contest. The Knights were awarded a penalty kick after a player was fouled inside the top of the box. Audrey Reid's attempt was saved by Cortland goalie Danika Svendsen (Stillwater), but Reid was able to quickly pounce on the rebound and knock it in.

Erin Valente (Latham/Shaker) tied for the game for Cortland in the 13th minute with her third goal of the season. Alannah O'Shea (New Hyde Park/Herricks) played a ball in the middle that Valente shot from the top of the box into the right side of the goal.

Geneseo regained the lead with 4:52 left in regulation when Reid buried a long shot for her second goal of the game and 16th of the season. The Knights added an insurance goal just over a minute later as Leah Greene headed in a corner kick from Reid.

Svendsen made two saves in the first half and Abby Miller (Andover) recorded three saves in the second half. Geneseo keeper Emily Janiszewski made one save. The hosts outshot Cortland, 17-8.

Cortland will travel to Brockport Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
