Cortland women's hockey gets swept by Plattsburgh

CORTLAND, N.Y. – For the second straight game, seniors Kayla Meneghin (Clifton, NJ/The Gunnery) and Melissa Sheerin (Schaghticoke/Millbrook School) combined for big numbers as the top-ranked Plattsburgh women's ice hockey team defeated Cortland, 8-1, to complete a two-game weekend sweep in NEWHL action at Alumni Arena.

Junior Charlie Calamari (Barrington, IL/Chicago Fury) netted her first goal of the season for the Red Dragons (1-2-1, 0-2 NEWHL) with a second-period power-play score. Sophomore Miranda Kolb (Watertown/Syracuse Nationals) assisted on the goal. Sophomore goaltender Rachael Farmer (Grand Island/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) turned aside 34 shots.

Meneghin tallied three goals and two assists, and Sheerin totaled one goal and four assists for the Cardinals (3-0, 2-0). Junior Courtney Moriarty (Estero, FL/Northfield-Mount Hermon) and sophomore Hannah Kiraly (Glendale, AZ/Northern Cyclones) each recorded one goal and two assists. Juniors Mackenzie Millen (Anchorage, AK/NAHA) and Karen Hudson (Sykesville, MD/Washington Pride) netted one goal apiece, and junior Ashley Songin (Springville/Nichols School) chipped in with two assists.
