Two swimmers win events in Cortland men's dual season opener at Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. - Sophomore Nick Galeto (West Islip) and freshman Ian Killane (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) each won two events during Cortland's 187-113 men's swimming and diving dual-meet loss at Ithaca College.

Galeto won the 100-yard backstroke in 55.78 seconds and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.22, out-touching his nearest opponent by less than three tenths of a second. Killane won 1-meter diving with a score of 246.15 points and 3-meter diving with 242.85 points.

Freshmen Dylan Cornelia (Deer Park) and Jason Boyko (Poughkeepsie/Our Lady of Lourdes) each registered two runner-up showings. Cornelia touched the wall second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.36) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.86). Boyko was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.18) and 500-yard freestyle (5:13.93).

Four other Red Dragons posted individual runner-up finishes. Junior Bailey Eigbrett (Avon) was second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.89) and freshman Billy Donlevy (Bayside/Holy Cross) placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.52). Sophomore Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.69) and freshman Patrick Conway (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) finished second in 1-meter diving (224.20 points).

Cortland opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as Galeto, freshman Alex Fisher (Smithtown/Hauppauge), Eigbrett and freshman Cameron Cook (Vestal) turned in a time of 1:43.14.

Cortland returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. with a home dual meet versus Geneseo.
