Sexual assault incident reported at SUNY Cortland

In compliance with the provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, SUNY Cortland is giving notice of a sexual assault incident that occurred on campus.

Reported Offense:  A SUNY Cortland student reported a sexual assault incident that occurred on October 21, 2017 in the early morning hours. The incident took place in a residence hall on campus.

Suspect(s): The suspect was known to the victim prior to the incident.

Cortland man arrested on drug charges after short pursuit

Narrative: On Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017 at approximately 3:15 p.m., officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle being operated 46-year-old Artis Quiller, who was wanted for questioning by another police agency. Officers attempted to stop the 2012 Chrysler van he was operating on Route 41 in Cortlandville, heading towards McGraw, when he refused to comply with police, the sheriff's office said. Quiller began driving on the shoulder of the road and passing other vehicles, at one point throwing drugs out the window of his van, authorities said. The short pursuit lasted approximately 2-3 miles before ending in the parking lot of Higgins Supply Co. on South Street in the village of McGraw, where he was taken into custody. Officers were able to recover the discarded drugs on the shoulder of the road, the sheriff's office said. Quiller was sent to the Cortland County Jail with no bail.

Cops: Kwik Fill employee stole cash from store

Narrative: On Thursday, November 16, at 12:34 p.m., New York State Police at Homer responded to a report of larceny from the Kwik Fill on Route 13 in the town of Cortlandville. An investigation determined that an employee, Gary J. Springer, 24, of Locke, had stolen about $360.00 in cash from the store, police said. He was arrested for the misdemeanor of petit larceny and was released on a ticket directing him to appear in Cortlandville Town Court next month.

McGraw man faces felony charge for allegedly stealing credit card

Narrative: Michael Thornton was wanted on an arrest warrant stemming from an investigation into a stolen credit card reported being used by him in February 2017, according to state police. He was arraigned in the Richford Town Court and remanded to the Tioga County Jail in lieu of $500.00 cash bail or $1,000.00 property bond. Thornton is scheduled to return to Richfield Town Court on Monday.
