CORTLAND, N.Y. - A Wayne County man was arrested Sunday after being accused of raping and assaulting a woman in Cortland County.

At around 2:07 a.m. Sunday, the Cortland County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in the McBride Trailer Park, located in the town of Preble, for a reported domestic incident between 36-year-old Donald Allen and another woman.

After interviewing the woman, officers learned that the pair had just returned home after going out for the evening. Prior to returning home, however, Allen drove to a remote area in the town of Preble, where he physically and sexually assaulted the woman, according to Lt. Todd Caufield with the sheriff's office.

The woman was able to convince Allen to take her to her home, where a family member contacted the Cortland County Sheriff's Office, Lt. Caufield said. Allen was then located at the woman's residence and taken into custody without incident.

The woman was transported by a private vehicle to Cortland Regional Medical Center, where she was treated for her injuries.

Authorities charged Allen with felonies of first-degree rape, second-degree strangulation, and second-degree assault, as well as misdemeanors of second-degree unlawful imprisonment, forcible touching, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible, authorities said.

Allen is currently being held at the Cortland County Correctional Facility.
