Cortland's Zach Lydon chosen as SUNYAC men's basketball athlete of the week

SUNY Cortland junior forward Zach Lydon (Elizaville/Stissing Mountain) has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for the week ending Dec. 17.

Lydon scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds in Cortland's 90-66 victory at SUNY Old Westbury this past Saturday. He made 9-of-12 shots from the field, including 2-of-3 attempts from 3-point range, in just 21 minutes of action.

Through nine games, Lydon is averaging 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. He's shooting 54 percent from the field and 47 percent (14-of-30) from 3-point range. Lydon has scored in double figures in each of his last three games and six times overall this season.

Cortland improved to 8-1 with its sixth straight victory. The Red Dragons will play twice this week in the HoopMIA D3 Holiday Shootout at Barry University in Miami. Cortland will face Southern Vermont Monday at 5 p.m. and Washington and Lee Wednesday at 2 p.m.
