SUNY Cortland, YMCA team up for fundraiser to benefit youth program

CORTLAND, N.Y. - SUNY Cortland has offered the Y and the community children free admission this Saturday to their 3 p.m. hockey game at the Alumni Ice Area at SUNY Cortland as they take on SUNY Canton. The Y encourages all to come out and enjoy the game to show support to our local collegiate team.

The team will auction-off the special jerseys the players will wear in the game and will also raffle prizes & local gift certificates during the game with proceeds benefitting the Cortland YMCA youth scholarship program.

Joe Cardarelli, Men’s Hockey Head Coach, said it is “important” to put the community first, and through the annual collaborations with local charities, such as the Y, the Hockey Team is able to help those in need. “We are proud to be able to help the youth and families in the community gain access to healthier lifestyles, and naturally we thought a partnership with the Y would be mutually beneficial.

Matt Kemak, Development Director at the Y, said he is always happy to collaborate with the college and urges the community to come out and show support at the Family Night on the 12th and the Hockey game on the 27th. “Our cause at the Y is to improve the foundation of the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Any proceeds that are made through the events will go directly to the Y’s annual support campaign, which funds scholarship assistance for youth and families directly in our community.”
