Ithaca sandwich shop Gorgers plans Cortland expansion

CORTLAND, N.Y. - A popular Ithaca sandwich shop will soon be coming to Cortland.

The owners of Gorgers Subs, which has operated on West State Street in Ithaca since 2012, are almost ready to open a new location on Main Street in downtown Cortland.

The restaurant is owned by Barton Diamond.

“We get a ton of students and families from Cortland in the Ithaca shop,” Diamond said in a phone interview Monday night. “Since we are a downtown-centered restaurant, it was a really good fit for us.”

The Cortland location is set to open sometime between March 1 and March 15, Diamond said.

The new restaurant’s location will be at 101 Main Street, across from the Dark Horse Tavern and next to Spiedini’s Pizza Parlor.

Along with subs and sandwiches, the restaurant also sells soups, salads, and hand-cut french fries. The new location will have the same menu, but with some new additions. In a few months, they hope to secure a beer and wine license and serve craft beer on tap, Diamond said.

Correction: A previous version of this article stated that Matt Diamond was a co-owner of Gorgers Subs. The Cortland Voice has learned that he is no longer a co-owner of the restaurant.
