McGraw, Cincinnatus face off in first round of basketball playoffs

MCGRAW, N.Y. - The 4th seed McGraw Eagles won their first sectional game on Friday night with a 64-42 win over the 13th seeded Cincinnatus Lions.

The Eagles came out strong in the opening minutes, though they only led by one point after the first quarter. By halftime, however, McGraw held a 10-point lead over Cincinnatus.

That momentum would carry the team to a decisive 64-42 victory over the Lions.

"I was impressed with the way the kids played defense tonight in the second half of the game," McGraw Coach Matt Martins said after the game. "They kept moving the ball in transition which helped us offensively."

The victory means McGraw will move on to the quarterfinals of the Section III Class D Boys Basketball Tournament. They will play again at home on Tuesday, Feb., 20, when they take on the Hamilton Emerald Nights. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
