CORTLAND, N.Y. — A Cortland man has been charged in connection with two separate rape incidents, one of which allegedly occurred five years ago, according to the Cortland County Sheriff's Office.

At around 9:20 a.m. Thursday, authorities visited the workplace of 27-year-old Devon A. Stiles, of Cortland, who had a warrant out for his arrest in relation to two separate reported rape incidents.

The arrest came after the sheriff's office received a report that Stiles had inappropriate sexual contact on separate occasions with another adult known who was known to him prior to the incident. While the incidents were only recently reported, the first one occurred in the village of Marathon in 2013, and the other occurred in the village of Homer in 2014, according to Lt. Todd Caufield with the sheriff's office.

Stiles was arraigned in Marathon Town Court Thursday morning and arraigned on one count of first-degree rape and one count of third-degree rape, both felonies. He was then transported to Homer Town Court and arraigned on a charge of first-degree rape in relation to a separate incident that was reported by the same individual.

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Marathon Town Court.
