Sex offender charged with failing to register

Name: Richard L. Cordery
Age: 27

Charge(s): Failure to register as a sex offender (felony); second-degree criminal trespassing (misdemeanor); third-degree criminal trespassing (misdemeanor)
Narrative: On March 12, 2018, Cordery entered Cortland High School as a visitor to speak with a friend; however, he failed to notify the school he was in the building, according to Lt. Richard Troyer with the City of Cortland Police Department. Cordery also failed to register his Internet account with new York State. He was jailed on $500 cash bail.

Reported argument leads to drug possession charges

Narrative: On Friday, police responded to Charles Street regarding people arguing in the street. During the investigation police discovered that Planas had marijuana and cocaine in his possession. He was released to appear in city court on April 13.

Onondaga County man accused of violating order of protection

Narrative: On March 16, at 12:30 a.m., while at a residence on Church Street, Thompson became involved in a physical altercation with a 46-year-old female who had a valid order of protection against him, according to the City of Cortland Police Department. During the altercation, he struck her several times with a closed fist. A warrant was issued at that time and he was arrested on March 23. He was sent to jail on no bail to appear in city court on April 20.

Police: McGraw man collected unemployment while working two jobs

Name: Robert J. Witty

Charge(s): Third-degree grand larceny; offering a false instrument for filing; falsifying business records (all felonies)
Narrative: Witty is accused of fraudulently obtaining unemployment benefits totaling $8,109.50. An investigation revealed Witty obtained the unemployment money for over three years while he worked two different jobs, state police said. Witty was arraigned in the town of Cortlandville. He was released to Alternatives to Incarceration and is scheduled to reappear in court on April 1, 2018.

Truxton man charged with DWI

Name: Dyson T. Sprouse

Charge(s): Aggravated driving while intoxicated (misdemeanor)
Narrative: Police arrested Dyson T. Sprouse, 24, of Truxton, after state troopers investigated a one-car property damage accident on Crain Mill Road in Truxton. Sprouse attempted to leave the scene after he crashed but was stopped by a sheriff's deputy, state police said. He was reportedly driving with a B.A.C. of . 21 percent. He was released on tickets returnable to the town of Truxton Court on April 11, 2018.

Homer woman charged with issuing bad check

Name: Kathleen C. Bell
Age: 38

Charge(s): Fourth-degree grand larceny (felony); issuing a bad check (misdemeanor)
Narrative: Troopers began an investigation on December 28, 2017 when a business owner in the town of Groton reported that they were issued a check and it was returned due to insufficient funds. Troopers learned that the check was to purchase over $2,000 worth of concrete. Bell was arraigned in the town of Groton and released on her own recognizance and will return to court on a later date.

Willet man charged with harassment

Name: Zachary M. Nowalk

Charge(s): Two counts of second-degree aggravated harassment (misdemeanor)
Narrative: After an investigation, troopers determined that Nowalk was repeatedly sending messages on social media, email and calling the victim repeatedly. Nowalk was released on appearance tickets. He is scheduled to appear in the town of Dryden Court on April 10, 2018.
