CORTLAND, N.Y. — The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a high wind warning for Cortland County from 10 a.m. this morning until 12 a.m. Thursday.

The warning is also in effect for Tompkins, Chemung, Chenango, and Broome counties.

Wind speeds will generally range from 20 to 30 mph, though wind gusts could reach as high as 60 mph.

The highest winds and most frequent gusts are expected to occur Wednesday afternoon and into the evening hours, with the strongest winds occurring over areas of higher terrain.

Damaging winds will likely take out some trees and power lines throughout the day, especially over higher elevations. Power outages are expected, and drivers should be prepared for the possibility of trees blocking roads.
