Cortland police locate missing person; one still unaccounted for

CORTLAND, N.Y. — Police have located a Cortland woman who was reported missing last week.

Melanie R. Bates, 30, was located Friday in upstate New York. Authorities at the Ontario County Jail told the Cortland City Police Department that Bates was in custody at the Ontario County Jail. She was reported missing Wednesday, April 4, after failing to return to her residential treatment home.

The Cortland Police Department is still looking for 27-year-old Matthew Hudson, of Cortland, who was reported missing Monday, April 2, at 5 p.m. He is 6'5" inches tall, weighs 215 pounds, and has blue eyes and brown hair. His last known address was on Stewart Place in Cortland.

Hudson, who also voluntarily left a residential home, is not considered to be in danger, police said. Prior to living in Cortland, Hudson was a resident of Hopewell Junction.
