The winningest season in the history of Tompkins Cortland Community College lacrosse came to an end in the NJCAA Region III District A Championship game Saturday as the Panthers lost to national powerhouse Onondaga Community College, 35-2.
The season ends with a record of 9-4 for the Panthers while the Lazers advance to the national tournament with a record of 13-0.
The Panthers advanced to the championship game for the second straight year thanks to a win over Hudson Valley Community College Wednesday.
That game featured a spurt where the Panthers scored five straight goals over the course of five minutes.
Saturday’s game would feature no such stretch for the Panthers as Onondaga dominated from the opening faceoff, racing to a 28-0 halftime lead. Tompkins Cortland kept battling until the final whistle, with Ian Kilts (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) and Jack Collmer (Vernon/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill H.S.) each scoring a goal in the second half for the Panthers.
