CORTLAND, N.Y. — An early morning crash on Interstate 81 in Cortland County led to the arrest of an Endicott man on DWI charges.

At around 3 a.m. Saturday, officers from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office responded to Interstate 81 in the town of Marathon for a one-car motor vehicle crash.

Eric Weathers, 24, of Endicott, was driving a 2016 Nissan 4-door sedan on I-81 when he drifted off the highway into the center median, striking a guide rail before crossing into both lanes of traffic and coming to rest on the opposite shoulder.

Weathers was not injured in the crash, but was found to be in an intoxicated condition, according to Lt. Karl Altmann with the sheriff's office.

He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated, both misdemeanors, and later released to a third party.

Weathers is due in Marathon Town Court on May 16.
